What is Sheltie Rescue?
Our Mission
The purpose of our Sheltie Rescue is to provide medical treatment and care to lost or abandoned Shelties until they can be reunited with their owner/owners or adopted to permanent loving homes. Under certain circumstances, we also accept owner surrendered Shelties for re-homing.
We make a concerted effort to locate the owner/owners of each dog. If we cannot locate the owner/owners of each dog, our personal commitment is to find a family for the adoption of our Rescue Dogs that will foster companionship, love, care, and safety.

What To Do For Lost or Found Animals
- Station MAGIC 105 has established a website for lost/found pets in their efforts to help pet owners who have lost or found a pet. You can list your pet on their web. Many thanks to MAGIC 105 for providing this service!
URL http://magic1053.com/post_a_pet/ takes you directly to the Lost/Found Pet Section
- Contact all of the phone numbers listed under "Help Agencies" (listed below) as soon as possible. Provide a clear description of your pet: breed, sex (spayed or neutered), name, age, weight, color, surgical scars, color of eyes, any distinguishing markings, collar/tags, tatto or microchip.
- Place an ad in the San Antonio Express News. Run over a weekend, several times if necessary. (Ads for "found" animals are kindly provided by the Express News free of charge.)
- Contact your neighbors.
- Prepare a flier and distribute in your neighborhood and subdivision. Put up signs where allowed.
- Walk/drive your entire area daily...keep in mind, frightened or scared animals can and do travel long distances.
- Look in culverts/drainage ditches if close to your home.
- Walk on the grass to leave a scent trail for your dog back to your home. Animals normally cannot pick up your scent from the asphalt or cement.
- Go in person to the City of San Antonio Animal Care Facility. Take a current picture of your animal if possible. Also provide a flier, copies of your City License and Rabies Certificate/tags. Leave a phone number where you can be reached. Check back with this facility every other day.
- Take your dog's favorite treats with you during your search. Do Not run after or at your dog...Stay Calm. Sit down on the ground; call the name of your dog softly and quietly, encouraging the dog to you. Place a treat out in front of you so that the dog can pick up the familiar smell. Be Patient! Remember that this treasured pet is frightened from its adventure away from home and family.
- Contact veterinary clinics, grooming shops and boarding facilities in your area.
- Check the telephone book yellow pages under "Animal Shelters" to determine if there is a shelter close to your home. Call.
Do not wait to report a lost or found pet.

MEMO
FROM THE DESK OF
"SHELTIE EXTRAORDINARIE"
Let's see my veterinarian routinely and please keep my immunizations current.
Brush my teeth and trim my nails often.
Please have me spayed or neutered for my health and because it's the responsible thing to do.
Give me Heartworm prevention treatment year round.
make sure I am wearing identification (collar/tags, tattoo, or microchip) so if I'm ever lost or stolen, we can be reunited.
Don't let me run loose in my neighborhood....I might get lost or hurt!
Please don't leave me alone in my play yard when you are gone. I get scared when left alone!
Keep me clean and free from fleas and/or ticks.
Keep my play yard clean and pick up my droppings daily. Water or hose down my yard often.
I need a quality dog food (consult my doctor) and fresh water daily.
Please keep my home and play yard safe and secure for me. Protect me from the weather extremes too.
If I should get lost from you, please call all the nice folks who will help you find me.
LOVE YOUR FAITHFUL PET
